Drinking and Driving
All the Scandinavian countries have (much) stricter drink driving laws than
some of our more distant vistors may be used to. In addition, it is quite
common (at least in Norway) for the police to stop all trafic to check for
'over the limit' drivers.
The only safe advice (both for the benefit of other road users, and for the
health of your driving licence) is:
'do not drink any alcohol at all if you intend to drive'
Remember also that it takes a long time to elliminate alcohol from your system
and you may well still be illegal the next morning (a favorite time for
spot checks), or even the next afternoon/evening.
On the plus side, no-one here will think it strange if you drink soft drinks
or coffee in a bar and no-one will press you to take 'just one'; everyone
knows, understands and generally approves of the laws.
Maybe it would be good if other countries had similar laws?
